Supplies for Twice Woven Workshop October 15, 2007

- Use a 2/16 (or finer) cotton thread for the warp.  You should use something that is a bit hairy as it needs to grab and hold the weft which becomes the chenille – silk or mercerized cotton are not good choices.

- Table loom set up and ready to use in the following threading with 1/2 to 1 inch spacing between sets of threads.  Put all 8 threads in one dent of a 15 dent reed then, skipping 14 dents place the next set of eight threads in the next dent (for 1 inch spacing).  For half inch spacing you would half that placing eight threads in the first dent of the reed then leave 7 or 8 dents empty then place eight more threads in the next dent.   It doesn’t have to be exact.  If you feel the need to be precise, you can use a ruler to decide where to place the group of eight threads for your own requirements.

The threading:

4-3-2-2-1-1-4-3   (8 threads)

2-1-4-4-3-3-2-1   (8 threads)

This threading is repeated alternating across the warp.

- For the Chenille

Thrums, of any size colour or thickness.  Whatever fibre you are using should be consistent – if using cotton (it doesn’t matter if you have fine and thick combined) use ALL cotton, the same with wool or rag for weft.

- Stick shuttles of the appropriate size for your loom

- Paper and pen for notes (there will be handouts)

And…Be sure to bring your enthusiasm and ideas to share with everyone
